The continuous growth in the number of cellphones in use around the world has tempted researchers to think of ways to keep them charged with minimal impact on the environment. Researchers at the Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan have taken the lead by developing mobile phone chargers that are powered by hydrogen.
The energy-efficient device uses hydrogen to charge a phone battery in just two hours without being plugged in. The team is hoping that their newest device will be able to replace conventional cellphone chargers by 2012.
