Eco Factor: Energy generating concept wheelchair.
The rides we prefer for our night outings are mostly fitted with high intensity lamps that keep us safe. However, people who are not that privileged to drive a car don’t often have a safe ride back home after dark. Industrial designers Min-Goo Kim, Yun-Jin Chang and Su-Eun Park have come up with an innovative wheelchair concept that not just helps the differently abled go green but keeps their nighttime outings safe as well.
The wheelchair is designed to feature a built-in power plant that uses the rotational energy of the wheels during the day to power a set of LED lights mounted on the wheels after dark. The system is based on the use of a coil through which a magnet moves as the wheel rotates.
The induced electricity is stored in a battery and can be used to power the LED lights after dark. The user can also check the amount of juice in the batteries by checking the LCD monitor located in the center of each wheel.
